Bird Spotting

Walpole Nornalup Visitor Centre Pioneer Park, Walpole, WA, Australia

The best time to explore the forest is early in the morning when the birds are most active and chorusing. Join our amateur enthusiasts in a walk around Horseyard Hill (about 1 hour walking) and see what is out and about in the forest. The mornings are generally quite cool, so bring your weatherproof gear and you will need a good pair of binoculars. We will provide you with a list of all the birds of the Walpole Wilderness and some tips on where to go to spot them.
Spotting the birds in heavy rain or wind can be very difficult, so this event may be postponed due to the weather.

Citizen Science

Walpole Nornalup Visitor Centre Pioneer Park, Walpole, WA, Australia

Citizen science has been recognised as a powerful new way to collect scientific data. By recording those things that you see as you explore the Walpole Wilderness, you can contribute to many scientific projects and improve our understanding of the natural environment. Through the use of the online app, iNaturalist, we will show you how you can photograph specimens (such as flowers, fungi or insects), share your discoveries online, get help from international experts in identifying the species and show how you too can contribute to global conservation.
This will be a short guided walk along the Horseyard Hill Walk Trail (about 1 hour duration). You will need to have the iNaturalist app already downloaded on your smartphone – we will show you all the tips for getting the best results from the app. The walk trail is formed, but uneven so wear appropriate footwear and be prepared for the weather (be it cold/wet or hot).
