RAW BEAUTY is a collection of new ceramic raku sculptures from the Seedpod Series; created by artist Sarah Keirle and influenced by the native seedpods of the Australian bush. They have been specifically inspired by the flora of the Darling Range Jarrah/Marri Forest extending from Kalamunda to Balingup,Western Australia. This region is part of the south-west botanic province – a world’s biodiversity hotspot with many unique flora and fauna species under threat.
The Seedpod Series has been designed and hand-sculptured to capture the unique beauty of the seedpods of iconic Western Australian flora. These forms are often overlooked or taken for granted, but hold the promise of future and beauty encased within their seedpods. Sarah’s sculptural representation of marri, banksia and sheoak seedpods are a stunning modern twist to traditional two dimensional botanical depictions.
These sculptures also represent the intense Australian environment where natural disasters like bushfires can be devastating, but also important for both new growth and for regeneration. The sculptural forms of the Seedpod Series are stunning statement pieces providing connection to the natural environment that reminds the viewer of how fragile our world is, but also
the potential for new growth and regeneration within.
